In partnership with respected international builders BESIX Watpac, Ashton Mitchell been selected as part of the winning team for Lincoln University’s new purpose-built student accommodation, a flagship development on the Canterbury campus.
The site within the University campus is located near the headwaters of Te awa o Āraiara, and our design draws inspiration from the area’s rich cultural and ecological history. The architectural expression references the raupō wetlands, drawing on narratives of place and natural references, textures, and forms that connect the building to its unique context.
Set to open for the 2029 academic year, the development will deliver 231 student rooms, including 8 fully accessible units with extensive resident amenities such as study areas, theatres, lounges and games rooms. Benefiting from its location immediately alongside Lincoln’s award winning Te Kete Ika dining hall, the new accommodation facility forms a vibrant hub and key part of Lincoln University’s student housing masterplan. It will provide welcoming ground floor lounge, café, and study spaces open to students from across the campus, fostering community and enhancing the Lincoln student experience.
