Ashton Mitchell’s Student accommodation successes have recently been celebrated in a pair of articles by the NZHerald.

Our newly completed Unilodge Auckland Central student accommodation tower has been hailed as ‘more a resort than student digs’, while the successful launch of our two upcoming PBSA projects for Precinct Properties highlights Ashton Mitchell’s pivotal role in the growth of the sector.

The Herald’s recent article features an extensive interview with Ashton Mitchell director Clifford Paul, who runs through the key design moves behind the UniLodge project, which was officially blessed last week at a dawn ceremony led by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.

In the interview, Clifford explains that the UniLodge project prioritises community, wellbeing, and connection: “One of the biggest things we had to do with this building, and with any student accommodation, is to cater for pastoral care of the students that arrive here,” Cliff explained. “The spaces are designed to encourage students to socialise, not isolate in their rooms.”

The UniLodge facility redefines the idea of student living. Far from traditional “student digs” the $225 million building offers shared amenities such as a gym, cinema, library, music rooms, study spaces, hobby areas, outdoor terraces, and communal kitchens designed to bring people together. Each apartment includes its own kitchenette and bathroom, with materials and details selected for both durability and comfort.

Developed by Cedar Pacific, managed by McConnell Property Limited, operated by UniLodge Living Group, and designed by Ashton Mitchell, the project blends modern design and sustainable construction with respect for Auckland’s heritage. The restored 1929 Campbell House Art Deco façade anchors the tower, connecting the city’s architectural past with its evolving future.

Designed to a Green Star 5-star standard, the building reflects a commitment to sustainability and long-term quality. It also showcases innovation in how architecture can support wellbeing and community in an urban context.

Ashton Mitchell extends its congratulations to Cedar Pacific, UniLodge Living Group, McConnell Property Limited, Icon Construction, and the wider consultant and construction teams on reaching the successful completion of UniLodge Auckland Central.
