Ashton Mitchell is proud to have been involved in The Bays Community Trust latest community housing development at 5 Willis Street, Long Bay.
Since its establishment in 2004, the Bays Community Housing Trust has been dedicated to offering affordable, high-quality housing on Auckland’s North Shore. The Trust’s mission extends beyond providing shelter; it aims to empower residents through community connection and support.
This project delivered six new homes for people on the community housing waitlist, in an excellent location near public amenities and transport. Ranging from one to three bedrooms, the dwellings provide a variety of options for different household sizes.
The development has been carefully designed to maximise the possibilities of a difficult steep site, incorporating a clean, modern design aesthetic while retaining a domestic scale which sits well in the established residential neighbourhood. Sustainability initiatives such as roof-top solar panels have helped the project achieve a Homestar 6 design rating.
As a community housing provider, our client’s focus was not only on providing well designed living spaces but also on creating a vibrant community where residents can thrive. Central to this initiative was the involvement of iwi group Ngāti Pāoa. This collaboration has helped to enrich the cultural fabric of the project, providing a sense of cultural safety and belonging for the future residents.
