Matariki mā Puanga 2025 - 2

Last Friday, our team at Ashton Mitchell gathered to celebrate Matariki with a shared lunch and time to reflect on the year that’s been.

Our celebration centred around a lunch inspired by four of the whetū (stars) in the Matariki cluster that are associated with food and the environment:

  • Tupuānuku – food grown in the earth
  • Tupuārangi – food from trees and the skies, such as fruit and birds
  • Waitī – freshwater food from rivers, lakes and streams
  • Waitā – kaimoana, or food from the sea

Everyone contributed a dish representing one of these categories — from roasted vegetables and fruit to seafood and freshwater dishes — resulting in a meal that reflected the season and the meaning behind it.

During lunch, we took some time to reflect on the past year, sharing highlights from both our personal lives and professional work. On the personal side, we celebrated new babies, engagements, and team milestones.

On the project front, we were proud to acknowledge:

  • A NZ Property Council Excellence Award for the Resido Build-To-Rent apartments
  • A NZ Commercial Project Silver Award for the Windowmakers Building
  • An NZIA Auckland Architecture Award for The Sefton House

Another big moment was our successful move into our new studio on Queen Street. The relocation has brought fresh energy to our team and better reflects how we work together, with plenty of space for collaboration, meetings, and social spaces.
