University Hall Apartments plays an important role in the University’s student accommodation offering, providing self-catered apartments for students living on campus. Delivered by LT McGuinness and project-managed by Colliers, the recent refurbishment transformed this building into a modern, energy-efficient, and future-ready residential facility. The project involved a full interior renewal, upgrading student living spaces, services, and communal areas, to meet current expectations for comfort, durability, and safety.

Externally, University Hall underwent a targeted upgrade that significantly improves long-term performance. Works included an overhaul of the communal external courtyard, a complete re-roof, and the installation of new double-glazed windows to meet H1 energy efficiency requirements, a key step in reducing heat loss and improving acoustic performance. By retaining the existing structural framework in place, the project is a strong demonstration of sustainable building reuse, extending the life of the original asset while delivering a contemporary and efficient living environment for students.

Ashton Mitchell also completed vital refurbishment works to Building B114. Located at the heart of the University’s city campus, building B114 is a 1,700m² two-level academic facility comprising lecture theatres, seminar rooms, bathrooms, offices, meeting rooms, and a staff kitchen and lounge. Delivered by Kalmar Interiors and project-managed by Precon, this multi-staged project required careful planning around the university calendar, with critical completion dates aligned to the return of students for Semesters.

The refurbishment included a comprehensive upgrade of building services, the construction of a new fire egress route, and enhancements to circulation and safety. A vital stage of the project involved improving accessibility, achieved through the addition of the new platform lift designed to meet the University’s inclusive access requirements.

Together, the B436 and B114 refurbishments showcase our commitment to sustainable re-use, improved building performance, and delivering high-performing spaces that elevate campus life. Congratulations to Justinn Valerio, and the University of Auckland, for successfully delivering these refurbishment projects.
